Campus trip to the University of Maryland-Eastern

umes-visit-2024 - 16

The High School Academic Support Program hosted a Campus trip to the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore in Princess Anne, Maryland on April 25th-26th. Thirty seven high school juniors and seniors were in attendance from various high schools in Newark: East Side, Central, West Side, Barringer, University, Arts High, Weequahic, and American History. Our teens enjoyed a campus tour, admissions presentation, panel discussion with current UMES students and faculty before enjoying a fun-filled day at UMES Spring Bling 2024 Carnival. The teens enjoyed a performance by the Cheerleaders, Step Show and Hip hop concert while enjoying the carnival games and rides. A delicious dinner was held at Golden Corral in Elkton, Maryland which our teens thoroughly enjoyed.

We are grateful to our supporters: City of Newark and Victoria Foundation. Our chaperones: Kenneth Allen and Raheem Amirazan, Decamp Bus Lines and the Bessie Green Community.

Our students shared reflections after the trip that I felt compelled to share:
